27 AFR 1928 ¡COL.OFF.CE

26 April, 1928.

Sir,

пов

I have laid before the Lords Commissioners of

His Majesty's Treasury Sir G. Grindle's letter of the

no7

31st ultimo (52745/28), and enclosures, further

relative to the request of the Hong Kong Government

that the Mints at London, Bombay and Calcutta should

be asked not in future to mint any British Trade dollars

without reference to that Government.

In reply I am to request you to inform

Mr. Secretary Amery that My Lords concur in his proposal

to inform the Governor that it appears doubtful whether

the Mints have power to refuse the coinage of silver

bullion into trade dollars, and that it is not therefore

possible to comply with his request; but that if the

situation referred to in the last sentence of his

telegram of the 9th of March should arise, he should

report the matter before accepting any arrangement

The Under Secretary of State,

Colonial Office.
